Tips for Having a Summer Wedding Venue

Summer can be a great time for a wedding! Kids are out of school and it’s easier for guests to make travel plans. In northern states, the beautiful weather makes the summer months the most popular for weddings. But, if you’re planning a summertime ceremony in Florida, there are some important factors you’ll want to consider. Here are a few things you need to know as you start to make your summer wedding plans.

It’s Hotter Than You May Think

It’s no secret that summers in Florida are hot, but if you’ve got your heart set on an outdoor wedding, you might try to convince yourself it’s not really that bad. While you should definitely have the wedding of your dreams, it’s important to understand that outdoor weddings in the summer heat will leave you with a lot of cranky guests.

If you decide to hold your wedding outdoors, make sure you take some steps to keep everyone cool. This could include providing umbrellas or setting up sail shades, offering fans, and making sure there are plenty of cool drinks. Also, don’t forget to let your guests know the wedding is outdoors so they can dress accordingly. If your venue can accommodate it, you may also consider offering guests a cool place to gather while they wait for your nuptials to begin.

There’s a Good Chance it Might Rain

Planning your wedding for the early morning or late evening may help keep things cooler, but don’t forget about Florida’s summer rains. Afternoon showers are common, so it’s important to have a backup plan. For this reason, you may want to choose a wedding venue that has an indoor area you can use if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

Also, remember that hurricane season begins on June 1st. While the peak months are August through October, there’s still a chance that an early storm could disrupt your wedding plans.

You May Need to Make Other Accommodations

As you plan your wedding, keep in mind that the heat and humidity can impact everything from your décor to your makeup. Since flowers will wilt faster, you’ll want to choose hardier varieties and remember that everything from glue to frosting has the potential to melt.

You may want to choose a lightweight dress and have your hair styled in a way that keeps it off your neck. Be sure to use water-resistant makeup and anti-humectant hair products – and leave enough time for at least one or two touch-ups throughout the day. For the men, it’s also a great idea to opt for linen suits rather than traditional tuxedos.

Don’t Let the Weather Put a Damper on Your Summer Wedding

One of the best ways to combat the weather-related issues that can come with a summer wedding is to plan an indoor wedding at a beautiful location with a stunning outdoor area. This will allow you to enjoy the best of both worlds, having all or part of your wedding indoors under air conditioning while still being able to take gorgeous photos outdoors.
